ETT Shop of the Week ~ Joslin Jewels

Sheridan Joslin, of Joslin Jewels, creates wire wrapped and beaded jewelry. But all it takes is one look at her shop and you can tell immediately that her art involves so much more than "just" wire and beads!

“Whether simple or intricate, I meticulously craft each piece of jewelry I create. I use only fine metals and carefully selected gemstones. Each piece is original and most are one of a kind. I love gemstones as much as I love a good puzzle. Making intricate wire jewelry is like a challenging puzzle. It involves shaping and forging straight wire into intricate designs with no soldering -- only wrapped connections. It's an art that dates back thousands of years, and many of the techniques used today are the same as those used in ancient times. With only a few simple tools and careful manipulation, a skilled jewelry artist can sculpt wire into beautiful works of wearable art.”

And that is exactly what Sheridan does with her work. Check out her shop and be amazed!
Follow her on Twitter . Read her blog. Become her fan on Facebook.

Special Deal until 9/27/09: Buy one or more items over $25.00 and choose one item worth up to $25.00 for FREE! Simply enter "etsytwitter" and the name of the item you would like to receive for free in the Notes to Seller box during Etsy.com checkout.

L'elephante Rose ~Etsy Twitter Team Shop of the Week

Sherisa Vassel, of L'élephant Rose (Pink Elephant, if I remember my HS French) creates jewelry and hair accessories for women to feel gorgeous in!

Sherisa is: a Temple University Alumni; a lover of color, music, laughter, nature, warmth and her man; a writer; a jewelry and accessories designer; the mother of a duckling; and a daydreamer extraordinaire.

According to Sherisa, her “Major life influences are stories from my childhood, French, my wild imagination. I'm heavily influenced by the past. And very intrigued by what lays ahead in the future. I take great care in attention to detail when making anything. It is a blessing to be able to follow a dream through and I attempt to pass that blessing on through my work. I care deeply about what I make.

L'élephant Rose is for the bold woman. Those not afraid to exude confidence. The woman who understands that they define their sensuality. We are effortlessly cool. Dare to be bold! Adorn yourself accordingly.”

So, if you dare, visit this extraordinary etsy shop. Wouldn't you love to know more about the duckling?

New Earrings for Spring

I had so much fun adding bits of ribbon and lace to my necklaces that I decided to try adding these soft touches to some earrings. It was a bit hard figuring out how large to make the "trimming" sections and to get them to match well. Unfortunately, several of the vintage ribbons I acquired over the years were unsuitable because they were too fragile and frayed too easily. Never fear....I'll find a use for them yet!

The first pair is called "Juicy Peach Dangles." The next "Just Too Tulle Dangles" and the last "I Used to Wanna Be a Ballerina Dangle." They are all for sale in my etsy shop.

Loopiness! My New Spring Line

Since I discovered a supplier of unused vintage plastic hoop beads, my creative juices have been revitalized. I have always been inspired by the materials I use rather than designing something first and then finding what I need to bring the design to life. Often those materials would come from broken or unattractive vintage pieces, but there are some vintage bead dealers that have somehow amassed large amounts (not if I keep buying them!) of unused vintage beads. One such supplier is johnv6 , from whom I have purchased several lots of plastic hoop beads.

They have inspired a series of new necklaces and earrings, which I think of (with undeserved hubris, may I add!) as my SPRING LINE.

What Goes Around, Comes Around

That was one of my mother's favorite expressions and I'm beginning to think it really is true. For the second time, when I created an etsy tresury featuring other artisans' work, I was included in a treasury as well. Spooky? Funny? Great! The first time this happened, I created a treasury called Bumped and one of my necklaces was included in a team treasury.

Yesterday, as my latest treasury, called TYPE A was expiring, my Green Glass Dangle Earrings were included in a new treasury called Lucky, Green, Eco and Retro Too by Kitsch Designs.

I love to create treasuries and will continue to do so whether this serendipitous trend continues or not, but wouldn't it be GREAT if it continues?

Collector of Vintage Jewelry

Although I have collected vintage jewelry for many years, I didn't wear very much of it. Necklaces were too short, too heavy and too tacky. Some of it was appropriate to display around my apartment but most of it went unworn, unseen and even broken and in need of repair. I decided to learn how to recycle the beads and chains from the old pieces into necklaces I would wear like the Fashionista necklace above.

When I began to get compliments from friends and colleagues on the pieces I was wearing, I started taking custom orders and giving them as gifts. Last January, I  opened a shop on etsy - a site I had shopped happily on for months. For those of you unfamiliar with this fabulous website, it is like having flea markets, craft fairs, artists, innovators and lovely people from all over the world at your fingertips!

The shop threepeats.etsy.com is now one year old and I am having a blast...first designing the jewelry, then creating it, then shipping it to interesting  people who have loved my work. I have almost 100 buyers who call me a favorite shop and have completed more than 50 sales online.

To celebrate the anniversary of my shop, I am having a sale.....25% off all jewelry for the entire month of January.
