Pretty Whimsical ~ New ETT Shop of the Week
Stacey Gaar, of Pretty Whimsical, is an exceedingly talented artist. She makes the most delightful Scrabble tile pendants!! You can find something for everyone on your gift list this holiday season in Stacey’s shop. She has Halloween covered, too! Her selection includes birds, animals, quotes, motivational sayings and vintage photos. These affordable, handmade charms are perfect for teachers, co-workers, friends and family. She can also turn any pendant she has listed in her shop into a ring or magnet, upon request.

T.G.I.S. ~ Inspiration
Upcycled T-shirt Yarn from bellaflower
I am fond of using materials in my jewelry that are refashioned, recycled, repurposed and renewed. I have been using chain from broken or "unwanted" vintage pieces in my necklaces and earrings but I wanted to try something new. I have been intrigued by etsy sellers who recycle old T-shirts into tote bags, quilts, rugs and scarves and I have found a wonderful Canadian seller of recycled T-shirt yarn, bellaflower. Instead of knitting with it, I am using it as necklace cord. The "yarn" is heavy enough to support my bead arrangements, a bit stretchy, so I can still create necklaces without clasps and it has a modern, edgy look that I think sets off the vintage beads beautifully. Here are the first two necklaces I created...and I just ordered more yarn from bellaflower. The necklaces will be in my shop after Labor Day.Monday, August 31, 2009
ETT Shop of the Week ~ In My Head Studios
Vickie Porter, of In My Head Studios, has a passion for paper. "I love everything about paper - the way it feels, the sounds it makes, the colors and textures. It has dimension, and I try to use that in my work." A self-professed perfectionist with an eye for detail, Vickie's exquisitely crafted pendants create miniature spaces that call to mind old letters, or the box of special treasures you had as a child.
Using scrabble tiles and upcycled vintage dominos as the base for her pendants allows Vickie to "create something new from something old" and the addition of beads, dangles and charms give the beautiful pieces texture and movement.
Vickie is also leader of the 175-member Etsy Twitter Team. "Running the team is truly a joy and a blessing to be part of! The members have created such a close community. I'm really proud of that."
