Caelum (Zo-Be Designs) - New ETT SOTW

Deanna Sims of Caelum (Zo-Be Designs), this week's ETT SOTW, loves paper. Her etsy shop is full of creative cards, scrapbooks, gift tags, memo clips and other gift items. As Deanna puts it "I play with paper, scissors and glue...I love creating and I hope that love is reflected in my items." Deanna confesses to having a paper obsession, "I can’t seem to stop buying more. I love the process of trying a new design out. It’s very gratifying when an idea comes together and actually works."

And for inspiration, she says: "A lot of my items come from my own need for them. I needed a baby shower card and came up with the idea for the clothesline card. I was trying to think of a cute wedding card idea and hit upon the Wedding Cakes idea. The custom baby blocks were made originally as a gift for a friend’s new baby. My scrap paper pile also inspires me! I’m always trying to think of new ways to use all of my scrap paper because my container is truly out of control."

Our new ETT SOTW is in my head studios featuring altered mixed-media domino and game piece jewelry, microscope slide glass pendants and ACEOs (Art Cards Editions and Originals) by Vickie Porter.

In describing her work, Vickie admits, "I have a seriously good/bad relationship with perfectionism so my customers can rest assured they are getting top quality materials and artwork. It’s sometimes hard to tell in photos online, but the dominoes and microscope slide glass pendants have real tiny paper collages on them. I work with ridiculously small pieces of paper sometimes.

For her beautiful and intricate creations, Vickie gets her inspiration from colors, lines, and shapes. "I simply have to create or I’m not happy. It’s like needing air." It follows that Vickie is not confined by rules, but lets her inspiration and creativity run wild and while she may not stick to one medium, she admits, "Central to almost everything I do is paper. I love paper."

Salon D'Arte ~ ETT SOTW

This week's ETT SOTW is Salon D'Arte. Talented owner, Susan M. Brown from Fort Lauderdale, FL creates paper crafts which include: ornaments, lanterns, cards, collages, and mini books. She is proud that "Each item is hand made. A one-of-a-kind creation. Not machined, mass-produced or factory made - handmade. Time and attention to detail is given to each piece and in many cases, I even make a custom package to give it a proper home. ETT Shop of the Week ~ Journey of Love Designs

Denise Kung, of Journey of Love Designs, works with fascinating papers, many of them Japanese. She specializes in stationary, paper gifts, magnets (photo), and related products like invitations, escort cards, and table numbers.

Denise also has a second Etsy shop called Seashell Baby. She lists products made by her mother. Her mother had to retire early due to her poor health. Now she knits and crochets to pass the time. She loves to come up with new products to make. What a nice mother-daughter story!

“I recently returned from a trip to Japan. I bought a few sheets of chiyogami paper and will be using them for my new products. I would love to buy the whole store of paper! I am a visual person so my eyes get tickled when I see certain papers,” says Denise about her adoration of paper.

It has dimension, and I try to use that in my work."
