Otter Delight

I'm not sure why the otter is my favorite animal (after dogs of course!). I think it has something to do with the way they combine furious shell-cracking (hard work) with lazy lounging, all while floating on their backs. Ever since I was a kid, trips to aquariums and zoos meant spending hours in front of the sea or river otter exhibit, watching them slip into and out of the water gracefully. The rest of the family would leave me there and pick me up on the way out because there wasn't really anything else on exhibit that I wanted to see! Maybe the penguins.

"Catch You on the Flipside" Necklace Entered in Design Challenge

My "Catch You on the Flipside" Necklace is entered in the Retro Handmade Team's June Design Challenge. The theme of this month's challenge is 70's colors and I thought this necklace, with its brown and yellow beads and heavy goldtone chains, fit the bill perfectly! The necklace is made from recycled vintage beads and chains and new, handmade felted wool beads!

When it Rains it Pours ~ Two Blog Giveaways

I agreed to be the first member of the Retro Handmade Team at etsy to volunteer for our new giveaways (which will take place twice a month on the team blog). I had heard from many successful sellers that giveaways are a great way of getting people to know your shop and "product." Besides, since I was little, I was the one who stepped forward and "volunteered" when it looked like no one else would! The Retro Handmade blog giveaway is described in the previous post or visit the team blog for more deatails.

A few weeks ago, I was interviewed for an article about me and my work on the fabulous blog Such Cool Stuff. I volunteered to do a giveaway for this site also. It turns out that the two giveaways are overlapping slightly. (Retro Handmade: May 4-11 and Such Cool Stuff: May 8-15) In both, I have offered the winners their choice of items from my shop and now my greatest fear is that both winners will choose exactly the same item and one will have to settle for his/her second favorite necklace or pair of earrings! What are the odds of that happening? I have also always been the kind of person who prepares for the worst case scenario!

In the meantime, I am enjoying the comments people are leaving about the items in my shop and learning why they chose the particular one they did. One of the problems about being an online artisan is you don't get the opportunity to really interact with your customers.

threepeats is Do You Etsy? Shop of the Month

ChiliMango (site administrator) let me know that threepeats has been selected as the featured shop of the month for April at Do You Etsy? After I made sure it wasn't an April Fool's joke (and it wasn't), I checked the featured shop page and realized that all the social networking I've been doing is paying off. All the viewing and commenting and responding....all the creating of treasuries and spotlights....all the blogging and picture taking... all the listing and re-listing is paying off.

People are getting to know me and my work. It may seem like a lot of time at the computer instead of time spent creating my jewelry, but it does pay off. Just like I am getting to know many talented, funny, inspirational people who share the same interests as me...they're getting to know me.

My only problem now is that just as I think I know everything I need to know about "social networking"...that I've joined every group or team there is to join... and that I've created enough blogs and pages to last me forever...I discover something else that I enjoy, want to learn and then apply to my "network."
