Since each of my jewelry pieces is unique, I try to come up with a different "name" for each of them. I realized recently that very often when I look at the finished piece, whether it's because of the shape or colors of the beads or their arrangement, the first thing I am reminded of is a song. I only hope, since my taste in music is very eclectic, that other people "get" the references.

Long, light, eco-friendly, affordable and SOFT!
About a year ago, I started seeing scarves made out of t shirt yarn on etsy. I liked the fact that they were made out of recycled cotton t shirts and that they were soft against the skin, especially the skin at the back of the neck! I found some wonderful suppliers of t shirt yarn and started fooling around with using pieces of it to anchor vintage beads in my necklaces. The only thing it limits me from doing is including several heavy beads in any one necklace....but I don't like "heavy" anyway. I have plenty of fun, colorful vintage plastic beads that are very light in weight and I can also include some of my favorite handmade felted wool beads which are light AND soft.
I now have enough of these necklaces listed in my etsy shop to create a special section for them. Please take a look. They make great gifts and are particularly popular with teenagers, college folk and anyone who likes casual, affordable, eclectic jewelry.

I Don't Even Like Fruit Loops!
A few months ago, I found a wonderful "purveyor" (always wanted to use that word in a sentence!) of unused vintage beads. I bought several batches of plastic hoop beads in a great variety of colors and finally got around to using them in a necklace. When I went to list it today in my etsy shop, I could not think of a catchy, descriptive name for it. And I had two cups of coffee this morning! I called it Fruit Loops because...because...I liked them as a kid...but I didn't! I liked Toucan Charlie (or was it Pete?)
Then I realized that for trademark reasons, I better change it to Fruity Loops Necklace and now it sounds like the necklace is "weird."
What's in a name? Everything! You can tell I need help...please give me suggestions for names for this cute, colorful, funky, eclectic necklace!

Curious Mess ~ Etsy Twitter Team Shop of the Week

Fellow New Yorker Starla Petersen's etsy shop, Curious Mess, is not...unless curious means unique and mess means eclectic!
“When I first opened my shop, I was only making the wood paintings. But as things have progressed, I've begun to work my love of fabric into it as well, with the newest items being fabric bowls and fabric brooches/pendants. I love fun and whimsical.
Everything you see in my shop, I truly enjoyed making. It makes me so happy to be able to express myself creatively, and I hope that comes through in my artwork. I want my work to make people smile.”
And it does! My favorite items are the fabric bowls like the Black & White one pictured here.
