A Profusion of Pearls! A Profusion of PLASTIC Pearls!

You know how I love vintage beads...especially pearls (even when they're plastic!). They epitomize romance and glamor (my father thought they were bad luck for some reason but my mother didn't!). I find broken pearl necklaces at estate, yard, garage, stoop and barn sales. I salvage the beads that are in good condition and I make necklaces. But not like the usual (think Barbara Bush) pearl necklaces . I don't match the beads and I don't place them in size order (called graduated) and I never, ever create multi-strand necklaces.

When I'm done with the necklaces, I sometimes have just two or three magnificent vintage pearls left...so I make earrings...like the new ones above. I think they're perfect for people who wear costume jewelry, don't like heavy earrings and want something unique and affordable. They'll be listed in my etsy shop soon.

You Asked For It!

Well, some of you did. I recently ran an earring sale in my etsy shop and many new customers bought them. In the feedback they graciously provided, several of them asked me if I ever had any dressier earrings for sale. They loved the vintage beads, the lightness and movement in the earrings...they just wanted something they could wear out in the evening, with dressy clothes.

I looked through my stash of vintage beads and found several plastic crystals and pearls. These are the high-quality vintage plastic beads that really do look like real pearls and glass. Except they are lighter, don't break and are much less expensive. I had used several of them in necklaces but had at least two of each left to use in my new line of Urban Chic Earrings. In each pair, I set off the plastic beads with unusual vintage metal beads giving the earrings a sculptural feel. Take a look!
