I "Pin" - Therefore I Am!
Just when I think I have all the new "networking" tools working, Facebook introduces "Timeline" - a new kind of profile. I resist previewing it. I see it on friends' pages and dismiss it as visually unsettling. I will wait until I no longer have a choice before "switching." Twitter has also changed its look. I can now "compose," "connect" and "discover." I could do all these things before but they were called something else and sound more exciting now. I also "post" (my own) and "comment" (other people's) on blogs. I can be one of several different people when I leave comments too, depending on which box I check. Blogger recently changed its format. Tags are now called labels and I don't even know what the "Schedule," Location," and "Options" options do when I write a post.
I have set up accounts on LinkedIn, MySpace and Bonanza too but I use them so infrequently I can never remember what my user ID or password are. I can't even remember what email address I used to set up the account. I wish someone would "bundle" all these accounts for me...maybe for a monthly fee?
Don't get me wrong, change is good. It keeps you on your toes and learning new things and learning is always good. I can even "cross-over" or apply skills learned previously to new tasks. (There is a lot of overlap in the social networking formatting and lingo.) Using these sites I can "work and play well with others" although the others can't be sure who or where I am. Change is good. I just wish it wasn't a constant! I'm off to figure out Pinterest. I forgot I set up that account too. I keep getting emails that people are following me and I'm not even sure where I'm going yet!

I am SO there! I signed up for Pinterest, Twitter, haven't a clue how to sign back in and use, yet I get emails that people are following me. I wonder if they know that I haven't even walked out the door yet?

Great article. I don't want to burst your bubble, but I'm halting Pinterest until their copyright issue is worked out. Read their user agreement and you'll understant.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up re: Pinterest...off to check the user agreement now!
